Privacy Policy

Overview

LighterLoad (“the Service”) is an AI-powered wellness coaching tool delivered via WhatsApp. This Privacy Policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and your rights regarding your personal information.

We take your privacy seriously. The nature of this service means you may share sensitive personal information about your relationships, family, emotions, and personal circumstances. We are committed to handling this data with the utmost care.

1. What We Store and Why

Everything we store exists to make your coaching better. You are in control of your data — you can view, edit, and delete your memories at any time through your dashboard.

Account information

Your name, email address, and profile image (from Google sign-in). Your WhatsApp phone number if you choose to connect it. This is the minimum we need to identify your account and deliver messages.

Conversation context

To give you coherent, personalised coaching, LighterLoad keeps a recent window of your conversation history. This allows the AI to remember what you discussed earlier in the same session and across recent sessions — just like a human coach would. Only recent messages are retained for context; older messages naturally fall away as new ones arrive.

Your memories

As you chat, LighterLoad extracts key facts — first names, relationships, birthdays (day and month only), preferences, and life context — into a structured memory store. This is what powers personalised nudges and long-term coaching. You can view, edit, and delete any individual memory at any time through your dashboard. Identifying details are actively stripped before storage — see “How we protect the people you discuss” below.

Payment information

Subscription and payment data is processed by Stripe. We store your Stripe customer ID and subscription status. We do not store your credit card number, bank details, or full payment credentials.

Usage data

Daily message counts and timestamps for rate limiting and service operation. We also use Umami for anonymous, cookie-free website analytics (page views, referrers — no personal data is collected by Umami).

2. How Your Data Is Used

• To provide coaching: Your conversation context and memories are used to generate personalised AI responses and weekly care nudges.
• To communicate with you: Account notifications, service updates, and billing communications via email.

We will never:

• Sell your personal data to anyone
• Use your conversations for advertising or marketing
• Share your data with other users
• Use your data to train AI models
• Read your conversations (no human sees your messages)

3. How AI Processes Your Data

LighterLoad is powered by AI language models provided by Anthropic (Claude). When you send a message, the following data is sent to Anthropic for processing:

• Your current message
• Your recent conversation history (up to 100 messages for context)
• Your stored memories (names, dates, preferences — not raw conversations)
• Coaching instructions (the system prompt that defines LighterLoad's behaviour)

Under our agreement with Anthropic, your conversation data is processed in real-time and is not retained by Anthropic after processing. Your data is not used by Anthropic to train their AI models.

A smaller AI model is also used to extract key facts from conversations into your memory store. This extraction applies privacy filtering — see below.

4. How We Protect the People You Discuss

You will naturally share information about other people — your partner, children, parents, friends. We take their privacy seriously too.

LighterLoad's memory system actively strips identifying details before storing information:

• First names only — never surnames
• Day and month of birth — never full dates of birth with year
• General location (“lives interstate”) — never street addresses
• General occupation (“works in healthcare”) — never employer names or role titles

We never store: full dates of birth, street addresses, phone numbers, email addresses, financial details, account numbers, government IDs, or medical record numbers — for you or for anyone you discuss.

5. Third-Party Services

We use the following third-party services to operate LighterLoad. Each has its own privacy policy:

• Anthropic (AI processing) — processes your messages to generate responses. Zero data retention after processing. Privacy policy
• Meta / WhatsApp (messaging) — delivers messages between you and LighterLoad. WhatsApp retains message metadata (delivery timestamps, phone numbers) per their own policies. Privacy policy
• Stripe (payments) — processes subscription payments. Privacy policy
• Google (authentication) — provides sign-in via Google OAuth. Privacy policy
• Umami (analytics) — cookie-free, anonymous website analytics. No personal data is collected. Privacy policy

6. Data Storage and Security

Your data is stored on servers located in Helsinki, Finland (European Union). All communications are encrypted in transit using TLS. Database access is restricted and protected by authentication.

While we implement reasonable security measures, no system is completely secure. We cannot guarantee the absolute security of your data.

7. Data Retention

• Conversation data: Retained for as long as your account is active, plus 90 days after account deletion to allow for reactivation.
• Memory data: Retained for as long as your account is active. Deleted immediately upon account deletion.
• Payment records: Retained for 7 years after your last transaction as required by tax law.
• Account data: Retained for as long as your account is active, plus 90 days after deletion.

8. Your Rights

You are in control of your data:

• View your memories: Your dashboard shows every memory LighterLoad has stored about your world — nothing is hidden.
• Edit any memory: You can edit individual memories directly in the dashboard at any time. If LighterLoad got something wrong, fix it.
• Delete any memory: You can delete individual memories one by one through the dashboard, or request deletion of everything.
• Delete your account: Request deletion of your account and all associated data (conversations, memories, everything) by emailing info@lighterload.chat. We will process your request within 30 days.
• Export your data: Request a machine-readable copy of your data by emailing us.
• Stop at any time: You can stop using the Service whenever you like. No lock-in, no penalties.

If you are located in the EU/EEA, you have additional rights under the GDPR including the right to data portability, the right to restrict processing, and the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. If you are located in Australia, your rights are governed by the Australian Privacy Principles.

9. Children

LighterLoad is not intended for use by anyone under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you via WhatsApp or email. The “Last updated” date at the top of this page indicates when the policy was last revised.
